DECIDUOUS FRUIT DEVELOPMENT CHAMBER SOUTH AFRICA (DFDC-SA) IS:

  • The transformation division of HORTGRO – the umbrella body for South African deciduous fruit growers.
  • South Africa’s first black deciduous fruit producers organization with a geographical footprint in 7 provinces.
  • A free-standing structure representing 113 producer units, with its own board of directors.
  • Playing a leading role in the process of driving a transformation agenda for the deciduous industry.

The Deciduous Fruit Industry (DFI) through its various industry associations and structures developed and adopted a transformation agenda in 2001. At the time, this agenda was agreed on by a range of stakeholders and was based on economic, social, community development, training, and the provision of industry capacity and funding to support and execute activities in this sphere.

The Deciduous Fruit Development Chamber (DFDC-SA) was created in November 2007, with the strategic intent of transforming the deciduous fruit industry by including black farmers and role-players throughout the value chain. The DFDC-SA’s mandate is to double the industry by 2050.

MISSION:

To establish sustainable enterprises through mutually beneficial and strategic initiatives in growing black ownership within the Deciduous Fruit Industry.

VISION:

To be the transformation agent of the Deciduous Fruit Industry to develop meaningful black ownership in the Deciduous Fruit Economy

OBJECTIVES:

  • Increase Deciduous Fruit Industry footprint in other provinces
  • Representation of black farmers through the value chain
  • Equity to be 100% black owned with exit strategy
